Sept 14, 2023 –– Today Nashville-based Psychedelic Country Troubadour, Jerry Castle, released his new single “Strangers Again” –– the second single from the singer/songwriter’s new LP Untangled.  Castle has a reflective tone on his anthemic genre bending earworm.   California Country, Pop, and Classic Rock are blended to create what he calls “hopeful heartbreak.” The song is about looking back on a relationship that has fallen apart and musing as to how after fighting so hard for their love, now it’s just a memory, and they are nothing more than strangers again.

Jerry Castle: Paying Homage to the Throwback Texas Man

Turning the focus away from his own life, Jerry’s brand-new track Throwback Texas Man pays homage the Texan men he admires, from Willie Nelson to Kris Kristofferson to Matthew McConaughey.

From humble beginnings in the Appalachian Mountains to the booze-drenched country lyrics and soulful southern-rock sound he’s become so well known for, Jerry Castle’s life has been a winding and often bumpy road. ‘Up until I was about 11-12 years old, we lived in poverty,’ he recalls. ‘Being in fist fights was a common occurrence and I still remember my first full-fledged fight at the age of seven.’ Despite this, Jerry credits his upbringing for teaching him the importance of hard work and resilience, two qualities that helped him remain dedicated to the one thing that brought him sanctuary; his music.

Jerry Castle was at the peak of Rolling Stones fandom when he met Bobby Keys, the hard-living, Texan-born sax player who performed gritty, iconic solos all over Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and several other Stones classics. Castle, a Nashville-based, Americana and rock singer-songwriter, was watching the Stones in Exile doc on repeat — and halfway through reading Keith Richards’ autobiography, Life, which portrays Keys’ pirate ways in vivid detail — when he reached out to saxophonist in 2014, asking him to play on a song he’d been working up, “With the Band.”

“With the Band” a ‘70s-tinged piece, reminiscent of the Allman Brothers Band, which “captures the family-like bond of musicians … and road crews who go through the tribulations and triumphs of life together. The song comes at a time when many musicians are mourning the connection with their road crews, yet it serves as a reminder that music can get us through anything.”

Jerry Castle Sits Down With The Bluegrass Situation

As far back as I can remember really, which is since about the age of 3 or 4. My family would get together for parties and take turns singing country and gospel songs. I started writing lyrics by the age of 8, but I didn’t actually get my first guitar until I was 20.

Glide Magazine Premieres Lyric Video

Today Glide is excited to premiere the lyric video for “Calm,” one of the standout tracks on the new album.

Today Glide is excited to premiere the lyric video for “Calm,” one of the standout tracks on the new album. With a twangy and swooning groove that feels like it comes from a honky tonk band soaking up the sun on a desert island, Castle conveys a sense of calm as he lets the song live up to its title.

Backed by a subtly soulful organ and a twangy pedal steel, not to mention enchanting background vocals and harmonies, Castle sings of the joy that comes from living in the moment and taking it easy. Musically and vocally, he exudes a little bit of JJ Cale mixed with smooth, easygoing country crooner.

American Songwriter Premieres “Pick Up Your Guitar”

When Jerry Castle was asked how he would describe his own music, “Appalachian Soul meets Cosmic Country” is the answer he volleyed back. An interesting summation to say the least.

When Jerry Castle was asked how he would describe his own music, “Appalachian Soul meets Cosmic Country” is the answer he volleyed back.  An interesting summation to say the least.

“Hell if I know, I was hoping you could come up with something that makes me sound like my music is cool and print it,” he jokes. “There are a lot of elements that bleed into my songs. Rock, Country, Alternative, Blues and Soul are all a part of the stew that cooks up the songs. I take pride in the fact that I sound distinctly like Jerry Castle.”

The Boot: Jerry Castle, 'Tequila and Tears' Music Video [Exclusive Premiere]

Written on the very last day of recording for Castle’s forthcoming album, “Tequila and Tears” is a booze-drenched track about self-reflection, "through the lens of a tequila haze during a time of loss," Castle tells The Boot -- and it’s totally autobiographical.

"I was up late listening to what we recorded earlier that evening, and I received a text delivering some particularly bad news," the singer shares. After getting that text, Castle says he was an emotional mess, and wrote the song on about three hours of sleep.

That ultimately turned out to be a good thing: "Because the song was so new and we weren’t given the opportunity to overthink it, it enabled us to capture an authentic energy that is the core of this song,” he explains.
